MILSIM or NOT?
An ongoing debate and a question from one that wants to know..
What kind of paintballer do you consider yourself? I know this topic may not mean much to some of you, but to me, Paintball is an escape from reality.. It's more like a real live video game than a real war. But that is what drew me in. The reason I really got into paintball (I had played before, but it was just recreational play with guys at work) was due to Fets, RodentX and Redmonkey. At the time, they were really starting to get into PB as a sport and were purchasing lots of gear. Camo, Kneepads, modded out guns, radios with PTT and water bladders.. I couldnt believe what I was seeing. These dudes looked like they were part of some millitary outfit. I thought, "Damn!! These are some crazy mofos!!" I wanted to be a part of that. And then we met Ghostman.. You helped take it to another level... Here I am today, wondering 'What kinda players are we and what are our needs?' And the question begs to answer, "Are we a MILSIM Players or something else? Does it really matter? I want to know what you all think. And by all means, be honest. I am not trying to buck status quo or make people into something they are not. Just opening up discussion on a cool topic.. Have at it! |

I would say I am MILSIM. I love the military style uniform and equipment. The use of communication with radios gives are style of play a sense of realism you don't get in recreational paintball.
Now what I think you may be getting at with this post "MILSIM or NOT" may pertain to the type of marker each of us use. I belive you don't have to use a MILSIM style marker to be "MILSIM". You should use whatever your comfortable with and fits your likes. |

And believe me when I say that anyone should play with what they want to play with and far be it from me to dictate that, but I can say for a certainty, that playing alongside a yellow water gun suspends my belief in the reality that ive created for myself.....

I digg the MilSim look. However, I feel that its is a balancing act with performace, need, and intimidation. When it comes to my marker, I am all performace before any cosmetics.
But when it comes to tactical gear such as radios, camo, scopes, nightvision, and claymore paintmines, they all serve a purpose and can directly effect the squad's or individual's effectiviness. However, Intimidation is mindset is a common effect of the use of Milsim type products. Like when Trey picked up his new A5-G36 at Pinnacle. The eye candy may have distracted us from its function. But the intimidation of having a 10lb monster can have a huge effect on your enemies. For example, which one of these looks more intimdating? ![]() Looking like a active duty Green Beret also gives you alot of confidence on the field because it gets you in the correct mind set. So in conclusion, I see many benifits to being "Milsim", as long as it is not over the top and does not hinder our effectiviness.

I would like to add, that just having camo and a milsim set up doesn't make you milsim. I think you have to incorporate tactics into your game to truly complete the milsim experience.
And part of that is radio/squad use and formations. But I agree that the milsim look has advantages on the field and also adds a lot of fun to the game. I am moving more towards MILSIM than just Woodsball. |

The second photo looks like a madman getting prepared to be unleahed, a rabid lion who just had raw squirel meat and a side order of fries. I'm afraid of the second guy. I feel I'm not MILSIM I belive in a practical approach although my ghillie can intmidate as well.

Rofl, the second guy is full of rage. He just finished his manwich after boxing with a grizzly bear and chopping down 30 trees to build a chess set for chuck norris before he hits the bowflex for a few hours.

Heh, he is a man struggling for exstance in this crazy mixed up world. He doesn't know where to turn exept for evil. He has always found evil to be the easy way and he likes the easy way. This is no ordinary paintballer this is the Devil of paintball he even uses diablo paintballs. If you don't watch out he might just send you straight to evil yourself. (This should all be said in a deep dramatic voice with backround music). By the way Chuck Norris would take a snake and swing it around hitting the ground until it dies.
Anyway I like the feeling of milsim exept i'm weak and it would take alot out of me. I think tactics is all part of the package and it is an advantage. just remember lookings free touchin will cost ya. Thats how i roll. |

I do have to say, just as I think you can't truly be milsim without milsim tactics or milsim clothing... you can't truly be milsim without a milsim marker. Not asking anyone to trade in their space gun...this team has never dictated what marker its players can/should use and it never will. But pertaining to the topic of MILSIM paintball, I personally don't think you can call yourself milsim and use a spacegun. That just raises the question, does it really matter if you fit in the MILSIM category or not? Most of us would say it doesn't. You have a milsim outfit, with radios and pads and all the tactics, but you use a subdued tourny marker, that is good enough. It isn't a bright color, and it is a marker you are comfortable with. That is what is improtant, not classification. |

Well, most everyone knows where I stand on this topic.
Although I like to see everyone have fun playing paintball with whatever he or she may have, I have to admit that I like playing more when everyone around me is into the MILSIM experience. I guess that it is all about the personal role-playing experience versus just the playing of paintball which is kind of like the game of tag. If I knew others would be interested, I would love to play in a league where every player is using a magazine feed marker, and the games where all modern based scenarios and everyone played more role-playing versus how we all play now. Actually, it would not be much different than reenacting a French and Indian or Medieval event where everyone has a developed character and persona. |

I don't feel really swayed one way or the other. Be it 100% MILSIM or not or anywhere inbetween, I just want to have fun and for me MILSIM isn't a requirement for that.
Now I would like to do some MILSIM stuff here and there sure (100% role-played as Ghostman talked about), but not all MILSIM stuff all the time. I like variety. |
