Define Milsim and Milsim Gun/Marker
What is milsim? What makes a marker/gun a milsim marker/gun?
Here's my take on the subject. I figure milsim is anything that can/could give the feelings of danger and fear that a person in a combat situation might experience. As far a milsim marker, I'm pretty liberal. I'd say that at a minimum the marker has to be in a subdued color. Stock adds to the milsim look, but isn't always necessary. I also think sci-fi, western, etc. modded markers rock, they show a lot of custom work and have class.

If you are simulating a past, future, or fantasy event, it is no longer a milsim marker, but rather a scenario marker or role-playing marker. So, do I think a western or sci-fi or even a world war 2 replica makes the marker milsim, no, but that doesn't make them un-cool. |

Re: Define Milsim and Milsim Gun/Marker
Im gonna take MilSim Products phrase on the subject "IF IT DOESN'T FEEL REAL, IT ISN'T MILSIM " Thanks ghostman, haha
I think it is a more tactical way of play, more realistic. It brings in more elements to the game such as: weight and ammo rationing. Last edited by tacsnipa; December 15th, 2007 at 11:10 AM. |

Re: Define Milsim and Milsim Gun/Marker
I have often argued that the emphasis of MILSIM should be function. It is just the nature of military products that makes them so appropriate for paintball.
Paintball markers are another story though. Personally, I don't care what my marker LOOKS like, as long as it isn't shiny or brightly colored; it must shoot, accurately, quietly, and very fast when I need it to. It should be lightweight and very durable; I should be able to fall on it or bang it into just about anything. My marker must also be cost effective, something that doesn't get mentioned much talking about MILSIM. Any after-market bits need to be worth their cost; not just monetarily, if the part heavy or makes for an easy target, it would need to be pretty damn effective to be worth my money. I have seen markers that are laden with crap, markers that easily weigh as much as my 8mm Mauser. There is a reason that the military developed lighter weapons, heavy ones hinder mobility. Everything must serve a purpose that justifies it's weight, looking cool cannot be enough. Practicality. |
