Is there a significant difference in the quality of paintballs when comparing the first ones to the present ones (assuming avg quality/mid grade)?

What's really funny is that, if I'm not mistaken, they are virtually neighbors with their physical locations in North salt Lake, Utah. Thought I read somewhere that they are literally headquarted right around the corner from each other or something like that.

I am not sure how close, but they do share the same zip code.

I would like to know how the word got out about paintball, and what steps were taken to get the 'ball rolling' so to speak. How did people get interested, and how was the sport spread? With other sports like football, all you needed was a ball and some guys. For paintball to spread, you need markers, paintballs, guys, and protective equipment. It seems to be much more difficult to accomplish, especially since so much is dependent upon mass scale manufacturing.

I can imagine it would have been very tough to build up the critical mass for the industry of paintball to be profitable, and thus exist.

What was it like before the sport had commercial and manufacturing capability? How did you interest new players when it was considerably more expensive, and you had to build/modify all of your own equipment?

Is the legacy of paintball being a 'tinkerers' sport a legacy of the necessity to make your own stuff?

Hey guys...

Now that the podcast has been announced, I want to let you know that this intial question was to gather info to use as part of the "Ask the Pro" segment on the podcast. (No, I'm not the pro!)

The guy who owns my local paintball shop, Underground Sports, has been involved with the game since it's inception, and worked for a company (Indian Springs Paintball) who pioneered a lot of the equiptment used in the game today with their plastics molding facility in Norton, Ohio. Basically, they invented the 140 rd pod, which everyone copied, the harness to carry them, which everyone copied, and lots of other stuff, which everyone copied.

If you have any other questions, comments, suggestions, or anything really for this segment, be sure to post them here.

I will also be posting a new thread specifically for podcast feedback, questions, etc. to gather info for future episodes.

Thanks!
- RM

Okay RM, here is a question right up their ally. If they developed the first 140rd paintball pod, why did they go with 140 when they could have easily made 150 (or any other number)?

thx
