2008 MMG Camping Thread
I would like to get a discussion going for everyone who plans to camp at Hell Creek Ranch.
CAMPING We need to find out how many people are camping, so I can give them a call and reserve the sites. Water and Electric sites are $25 a night for two people, and $5 for every extra person. So if we put 4 people on a site it is $35 a night divided by 4 = $8.75 a night per person. If we only have two people on a site it is $12.5 a person, so there is an advantage of maximizing the number of people per site - but it isn't a huge deal. I am not sure the max we can put on one site, but it seems like 2 tents will fit pretty well, possibly more. Actually Jax had a big family tent on the one with plenty of room to spare, so if they let us we can put 4 - 8 guys on one site. First we have to know who exactly is camping. FOOD Traditionally we cook steaks on night, not every did last year but most of us did and they were good. I vote we do it Friday night, because Saturday you are going to want something quick and easy to cook when we get back. If you want to participate it is bring your own steak, but last year I grilled them up for everyone on the camp fire. I can use team funds to purchase some common items such as ketchup/mustard/mayo/salt/butter/steak sauce. Unless anyone objects. But other than that I am not organizing any food sharing. If you and someone else want to agree "I bring the hot dogs you bring the burgers" then that is up to you guys. But people are too picky and it is too much hassle to try and organize that on the team level. DRINKS Bring your own drinks, if you bring beer/alchohol do not share it with under age players or I will report you myself. CARPOOL I have some guys meeting me in Streetsboro. If anyone else wants to use that as a meeting point you are welcome to, there is plenty of space to leave a few cars behind for the weekend. Mike has some guys meeting at Underground Sports in Cuyahoga Falls, but I know he is heading for the Hotel where we are heading for Hell Creek. If there are any guys who are heading from the north, we can meet up at a rest stop like we did last year. It is always fun to make fun of people over the radios on the drive up. FIREWOOD I will bring as much firewood as I can. Last year we had to cut back on the fire at one point because we were running low (it as pretty cold last year at Global though). If we are going to have a fire in two camp sites someone else will need to bring/buy firewood. If just the one, I can cover it. SHOWERS/POOL Hell Creek has nice showers/bathroom. Respect it though, the owner is pretty touchy about it getting abused. Last year the pool was just being finished when we were there. We didn't get to use it, but I know it is done now and available for an extra charge. EXTRA ACTIVITIES There is fishing available at Hell Creek, but in my experience we are always too tired Saturday night to do anything bug sit and eat. Friday is a great day for everyone to walk the field and get familiar with it. You can also pick up your paint Friday and avoid the line on Saturday. But we have realized that just means you have to carry it back with you on Saturday. I am going to just go early on Saturday to pick up my paint this year I think, but I will be there to walk the field Friday. I would like to leave Friday at around 12:00 to head up there. I will be returning Sunday night after the game, not staying the extra night. I think some people are talking about staying Sunday night, but I don't know who you are so if you want a camp site reserved that extra night you can just do it when we get there (the place clears out Sunday, no worry about losing the site). Hhere is the list I have so far of those who are camping: Fets Ghostman PhiberOptix Dobbs Barak Bandito Meatcircus GimlyGirt 8UP Iceman Snipe_Alot Last edited by Fets; June 3rd, 2008 at 04:58 PM. |

Re: 2008 MMG Camping Thread
Dan and I will be there for sure. I have one other guy, Pacaso, who expressed interest in going, but I'm not going to plan around anyone else but my brother and I.
Not clear on carpooling yet. My wife and kids may be coming up with me to visit with my Uncle an hour south of Pinckney. If they come, My van will be full. If not, then I may have some room for extra car pooling. I think we can bring along some firewood as well. I'd be willing to pitch in on a camp site so I don't have to bother making my own reservations. By the look of the camp layout, you can fit at least 4 at a camp site, but I've never been there. |

You can definitely fit 4 guys on one site, that isn't a problem. I need to ask the max we are allowed to put on one site. I think we can fit 3 - 4 tents easily. |

Re: 2008 MMG Camping Thread
Dan and I can snuggle real nice on a queen size blow up mattress. We'll probably bring our own tent.

Re: 2008 MMG Camping Thread
I am camping for sure. I am still in the debate of bringing a nice size motorcycle trailer and truck to sleep in, or just a tent...
I remember that nearly all of us who brought sandwiches last year were eating them sopping wet...they all leaked when in the coolers....so I will do something different this year. Remeber, hydration!. Bring a gallon jug, camel back, something.. and money for ice. It is very important. I had an problem last year when I did not expect to stay on the field for over 2 hours of intense play and had no water. I fell down a flight of stairs after storming a tower complex accidently firing triples out of my A5 with every step my ass hit. I would have collapsed in about 10 more minutes...

I remember missions sneaking through the swamp where I spent a good 30 minutes just sitting in the swamp creeping along. That is all just to get in position to attack an objective, which takes more time and energy. If you don't have a camelbak or don't like them ... leave out a pod and throw a bottle of water in there. I know that we all know to hydrate, but it is good to be reminded. |

Even when you have a camelbak, remember to drink from it often. Especially those of you wearing vests. You don't realize how much you sweat in that thing. The first year I was there I had to sit out a little bit cause I was dehydrated, even with a camelbak cause I was so into the game I forgot to even drink from it while I was wearing it.

Re: 2008 MMG Camping Thread
Hopefully I'll have my vest back before this game. I plan on getting a camel back for it. I'll prolly sub out a pod for water bottle too...

Re: 2008 MMG Camping Thread
No worries. From what I have heard from others, is that you can still hangout and have a good time around the campfire, but then go to the hotel to sleep. I hope you can make it Snipe.

Re: 2008 MMG Camping Thread
Update to this.
Iceman and me will be carpooling together so we will be camping with the team, so add us to the list ![]() What do we do about the reservations? Do we make them, do you get them in a group and pay you or what?
