Tactics in movies and TV shows
Let's have some holiday fun.
During this time of year, I like to go to the movies as well as watch my favorite DVDs. What movies do you feel reflect good-sound tactics? Try not to judge a movie or show based on visual effects, costumes, and props, but rather how they implement their tactics. However, after you rate them based on tactics, please feel free to chime in on how they did with special effects, visual effects, sound effects, costumes, props, dialogue, and anything else you can think of. However, try to stay away from rating the story.
Let's hear what you have to say...

Re: Tactics in movies and TV shows
I have always thought 'Tears in the Sun' was one of the most sound movies, tactically.
Of course Full Metal Jacket, the part where he gives some great tactical advice: "How can you shoot women and children?" "Easy, you just don't lead them as far!"

Re: Tactics in movies and TV shows
I was quite impressed with The Last Castle, not for squad level tactics. The planning stages of seizing the prison were both clever and simple at the same time, exactly the kind of tactical plan that you want to have.
Even though you have to look pretty hard for them, Band of Brothers has some very realistic tactical aspects throughout.

Re: Tactics in movies and TV shows
I don't know about tactics, but the ambush in Red Dawn where the kids hide under hay bails was awesome. Also in Kelly's Heroes where the move the Sherman into the building to attack the Tiger from behind- that's was good thinking. The Professional, the raid on Leon's apartment was good stealth, but a little over the top towards the end.
Can't think of much else. I don't really watch TV.

Re: Tactics in movies and TV shows
I would say Band of Brothers has good tactics and quit possibly Blackhawkdown. In BoB, they display the usual squad tactics of setting down a base of fire to flank from and such. In BHD, they hold positions in a way that they have all the corners covered, yet still have good protection ( such as from the back of a guy covering the other side) Both movies also showed good cover fire when moving and throwing a grenade. Also to be noted, the use of hand signals with the Delta and USMC SAW who took out the recoiless jeeps attacking their position.

Re: Tactics in movies and TV shows
I forgot about the "Hunt for Red October." Ramius had some smart moves.

I don't remember much of "Hunt for Red October,' but maybe because I dislike the Baldwin's--especially Alec Baldwin-- as Jack Ryan, and thought they did a horrible job in that particular casting. In addition, I read the book before the movie came out, and of course the movie was nothing near the book.
